Our Habeas Library includes headnotes and case summaries of hundreds of habeas decisions from jurisdictions throughout New England. The library is intended to help attorneys quickly identify useful examples and develop litigation strategies in urgent detention matters.
We also maintain template filings and training materials for our volunteer attorneys. To request access to additional resources or templates, email immigrationhabeasproject@gmail.com.
Referrals Outside New England
Our project serves individuals who are unlawfully detained in Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, or Vermont. If you are seeking assistance for someone outside of New England, including someone who has been transferred to another jurisdiction prior to a habeas petition being filed, the habeas projects below may be able to help. We will continue updating this list as we become aware of additional regional projects.

This project assists those arrested in DC, Maryland, and Virginia or previously residing in those places

This project assists: immigrants arrested or detained in Illinois; Illinois residents detained elsewhere; individuals with immigration case docketed at the Chicago Immigration Court

This project assists those detained in Minnesota or arrested in Minnesota but transferred elsewhere

Detainees can call their detained line for free and will be referred to the project if eligible. Calling instructions are on their website.

This project assists those detained in Louisiana, Mississippi, and other parts of the Gulf Coast & Southeast region.

This project accepts referrals from anywhere in the US, though may need local counsel connections for filing/admissions, intended for Sikh and/or Punjabi immigrants.
Priorities are women, commercial truck drivers, and any egregious arrests but open to all Sikh and Punjabi detainees.
